The Rumba is a slow dance – known as the dance of love, it should be romantic and sensual with lots of eye contact.
A good strong leg and hip action is achieved by the bending and straightening of the knee, as you transfer the weight on to one leg the knee straightens the other one bends.
There should be constant foot to floor contact, the toe stays in contact with the floor, then the heel is lowered as the weight is transferred on to the leg allowing the hip to swing naturally.
Hip action in this dance should be natural not forced.
Arm movements should be smooth and flowing.
This dance is danced with the emphasis on the second beat of the bar, which takes a little getting used to.

As this is a compact dance (it doesn’t travel around the floor) it is a perfect wedding dance. It also suits many modern medium to slow-paced vocals.
